- what wallet do you use?
- I use a couple different wallets, there are tons out there!
- In general, hold your own keys, don’t use a custodial wallet, and for the average consumer, a hardware wallet is great but one in browser like metamask is likely more than enough for your needs.
- where can I buy cryptocurrencies?
- you can buy them in person from sites like 99bitcoins
- you can buy them from an exchange
- you can ask your bestie to exchange cash for cryptocurrency
- im worried about wallet security…
- don’t be! the weakest link is you, just don’t share your passwords/seedphrase, and don’t connect to a website that you don’t trust
- eg if a website called becomeBTCmillionaire.com asks you to connect your wallet, I wouldn’t trust it. use your best judgement and common sense. if you have poor judgement, ask a friend (if you’re totally unsure, ask someone!)
- think of it like this: you don’t go jabbing random usb sticks (gosh, am I dating myself?) into your computer, likewise, don’t connect your wallet to random websites on the internet
- What’s a good place to learn about these things?
- I highly recommend groups like SheFi, Women in Blockchain, and Des Femmes — these groups are targeted towards women but if you aren’t, fear not, there are plenty of resources out there!
- Not a lady? No problem. Check out base58 or consensys academy, or even read the docs around your desired chain [start with BTC or ETH imo].
- And of course the catch-all, search on reddit “eli5 blockchain” and start reading
